Ujfalusi Snubs Reds

August 30, 2007

Tomas Ujfalusi’s agent Pavel Paska has claimed that Liverpool made an enquiry about the availability of the Fiorentina defender.

The Czech Republic international has 12 months remaining on his present deal and was linked with a move to Sevilla earlier this summer.

With Jamie Carragher currently out injured after sustaining a broken rib, Paska explained that Rafa Benitez was keen to secure the player as defensive cover.

However Ujfalusi is only keen on a move to Spain and has reportedly turned down the enquiry.

“Liverpool have a problem as Jamie Carragher has picked up a serious injury,” Paska told Sport.

“Manager Rafael Benitez together with the club director Ricky Parry have therefore asked me if I could address the offer to Tomas.

“Tomas has consulted it with his family and told me that he was happy with life in Italy and that the only country he would move to is Spain.

“I have to respect his decision, nevertheless it has surprised me a lot. Liverpool never give this offer twice to one player.”

Reds Bid For Beast

August 29, 2007

Liverpool have tabled a bid of 20million euros (£13.5million) for Real Madrid striker Julio Baptista, according to Marca.

The Brazilian – nicknamed ‘The Beast’ – spent last season on loan at Arsenal but failed to shine consistently, although he did net four goals as the Gunners beat Liverpool 6-3 in a Carling Cup tie at Anfield in January.

After helping Brazil win the Copa America over the summer he was linked with a move for AC Milan, but it is now claimed Rafael Benitez has entered the bidding with an offer that may be enough to tempt Real to sell.

They are looking to raise money to enable them to make a fresh move for Sevilla full-back Daniel Alves, and Marca claims they could also be ready to sell Roberto Soldado to Benfica.

Heinze Loses Appeal To Join Liverpool

August 21, 2007

A Premier League tribunal has ruled that Gabriel Heinze will not be allowed to move to Liverpool.

The Argentine international had requested the Premier League intervene, when Manchester United refused to sanction his departure to Liverpool.

Heinze looked to be on his way out of Old Trafford in the summer, when the club invited offers from European sides, but the player set his heart on Anfield.

Uncertain future

United have remained adamant in their stance that Heinze would not be allowed to join a title rival and this viewpoint has now been vindicated by the Premier League.

Sir Alex Ferguson and United officials have always maintained that Heinze could leave for another country, for a fee of around £6.8million, but it remains to be seen whether he still has a future in Manchester.

August 18, 2007

Liverpool are moving for Grenoble teenager Sofiane Feghouli.

French sources say the 17 year-old midfielder could join Liverpool before the summer transfer window shuts.

Feghouli is keen on a switch to Anfield and believes it would be a better career move than remaining with Grenoble.

Reds Join Cicinho Hunt, From A More Reliable Source

August 15, 2007

Liverpool have joined Roma in the hunt for Brazilian ace Cicinho, according to reports in Spain.

The Brazilian full-back appears to have been pushed down the pecking order at Real Madrid under new coach Bernd Schuster.

Michel Salgado and Sergio Ramos have been used on the right during most of Real’s pre-season to date, and Cicinho realises he could be due for a season of bench-warming if he stays at The Bernabeu.

Roma first showed an interest last month but have yet to strike a deal for the 27-year-old.

However, Liverpool have now been alerted and it has been claimed that Rafa Benitez has made contact.

Benitez wants competition on his right side and after seemingly cooling his interest in Sevilla’s Daniel Alves – Cicinho appears to be an attractive alternative.

Roma were believed to be looking into a possible loan, but it seems a The Reds could bid 10 million euros (£6.8million) – which the Eternal City side would not match.

One possible problem for Liverpool could be the fact that Cicinho is reported to have told Real that he would rather move to Italy than England.

Benitez Wants Defender Signing

August 14, 2007

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez is in the market for a new defender.

The Mirror says Benitez wants more cover at centre-half, knowing that should Jamie Carragher be injured his Premiership title chances would also go with him.

Reds chief Rick Parry said: “It was always the plan to get a lot of our transfer work done early in the summer because that gives the manager the maximum opportunity to settle players in.

“But we are far from finished doing business and if the right players come along then we are prepared to go and get them.”

Liverpool Sign Itandje, Carson Can Now Move To Villa

August 10, 2007

Liverpool goalkeeper Scott Carson looks set to join Aston Villa on loan for the new season after the Reds signed Charles Itandje from Lens.

Carson, 21, was at Charlton on a similar deal last season and has also been a target for Manchester City.

His exit was delayed while Liverpool found a replacement.

But Itandje, 24, has now completed his move to Anfield and is eligible to face Toulouse in Liverpool’s Champions League qualifier on 15 August.

Carson, who is second choice to Pepe Reina at Anfield, will not be allowed to leave the club permanently but Reds boss Rafa Benitez is happy to loan him out for a second successive season to give him regular matches.

Benitez said: “We do not want to sell him, we are very happy with Scott. But he needs to play to keep up his England place.”

If Carson does move to Villa he would be ineligible to play for them against the Reds on Saturday.

Villa turned their attention to the England Under-21 international after Sunderland beat them to the signature of Hearts goalkeeper Craig Gordon on Wednesday.

Carson joined Liverpool from Leeds for £750,000 in January 2005 and was one of Charlton’s more respectable performers last season when the Addicks were relegated last season.

He went to the Under-21 European Championship with England during the summer, where his side lost to Holland on penalties at the semi-final stage.

Itandje has agreed a deal

August 10, 2007

Lens claim Charles Itandje has agreed a deal with Liverpool.

Liverpool revealed earlier on Thursday they were in talks with Itandje over a possible move to Anfield.

The Reds have moved for Itandje as they prepare to let Scott Carson move on in search of regular first team football.

Carson is expected to join Villa on a season-long loan as the England Under 21 international wants to be playing regularly to safeguard his international ambitions.

Lens are willing to let Itandje go after bringing in two new goalkeepers to the club over the summer.

The French club have announced that Itandje has tied up his move to Anfield as Liverpool were keen to get him signed up before the UEFA Champions League deadline.

The 24-year-old, who will provide cover for Jose Reina, was delighted to be making the move to Merseyside.

“I’m joining a great club, a Champions League finalist last year and previous winners, it’s great,” Itandje told Lens’ official website.

“I’ve met great people (at Lens), an extraordinary public and rubbed shoulders with great players, frankly I’m leaving with a lot of emotion,”
