MIDDLESBROUGH VS LIVERPOOL Saturday 12 January 2008 15:00 |

Last season Liverpool’s away form proved to be their Achilles heel as a number of poor performances on the road meant they failed to mount a serious title challenge. In stark contrast, it has been a different story this year and we have enjoyed a series of fine victories away from Anfield. The only stumbling block has been our inability to turn draws into wins in L4, a run of results that has seen us fall 12 points behind leaders Arsenal – albeit with a game in hand. So what better way to recover from the recent draws at Manchester City and at home to Wigan than by continuing a trend of successful away trips by picking up three points down by the Riverside? In truth it has been a bit of a bogey ground for the Reds over the years and we have not beaten Gareth Southgate’s side on their home patch since March 2002, when goals from John Arne Riise and Emile Heskey secured a 2-1 success. Last season Mark Schwarzer was the hero for ‘Boro as Liverpool failed to convert their dominance into goals in a frustrating 0-0 draw and it won’t be easy this year either, as the North-East outfit are the only side to have beaten Arsenal in the league so far this season. Their 2-1 success over the Gunners at the start of December proved that on their day they are a match for anyone on their home ground and in Tuncay and Stewart Downing they have players more than capable of causing the Reds’ rearguard problems. Rafael Benitez side know they are in for a tough test and will go into the match hoping to avoid a third straight league draw, well aware that a first win at the Riverside in five attempts is a must if they are to maintain any hope of keeping their title dream alive. from LiverpoolFc.Tv
